Manage Eczema Effectively

Adopting a holistic approach is the route to successfully managing eczema.

Benefit from the positive impact of using products on your skin that do not contain Sodium Laurel Sulphate (SLS) or Sodium Laureth Sulphate (SLES).

These are two additives that give us the bubbles in soaps, bubble baths, toothpaste and shampoo. SLS & SLES can prove to be problematic for people who have a sensitivity to them and are known to have a drying effect on the skin. Babies and Children have a thinner epidermis (the outer layer of skin) and may be more sensitive to products that contain these ingredients.Bathing in bathwater that is contaminated with soap, shampoo and bubble bath that have SLS or SLES in their ingredients is potentially a concern for skin health.

Whilst SLS & SLES cause no problems for the majority of people, a growing number of people do have a sensitivity to them and find that using products containing SLS & SLES has a drying & irritating effect on their skin, in many cases this can be the start of eczema/dermatitis occurring.

Aqueous cream is one moisturiser that should not be used on anyone who has eczema or sensitive skin. It contains SLS and has been found to worsen eczema, as it is used to moisturise and thus remains on the skin for a long time.

The following products (brand dependent) will contain either SLS or SLES and listed is the parts of the body that they come into contact with often several times a day.

If you suffer from eczema or your skin is dry, irritated or cracked, it may be time to be pro-active in defining the cause. Consider how your choice of toiletries and laundry products are impacting on your skin. Replace them with SLS or SLES free products to see what improvements you experience.

Our recommended approach:
